The Karnataka state government has finalized 6,000 acres of land near the Nelamangala-Kunigal stretch of National Highway 75 for the proposed second international airport near Bengaluru, according to reports.
The site selection follows a detailed ground and aerial survey conducted using helicopters. A preliminary map of the location was prepared, and a special team comprising environmental pollution officers and surveyors inspected the area. The survey spanned three gram panchayats and covered 13 villages, including Soladevanahalli, Motagondanahalli, and Yentaganahalli.
As part of the study, SCP markers were placed at multiple locations after ground-level surveys. The area under consideration includes fertile agricultural land near the Thippagondanahalli reservoir and lies within the Arkavathi and Kumudvathi river basins.
The project is in the preliminary stages, and further details on its development are awaited.
