Boeing President and CEO Kelly Ortberg is on a three-day visit to India, marking his first international trip since taking over as the company’s chief executive in August 2024. The visit includes meetings with Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman in Delhi, engagements with Boeing employees, and discussions with key customers in the region.
Indian airlines have placed orders for more than 600 Boeing aircraft, including models such as the 737 Max, 787, and 777X. Boeing also reports that Indian airlines and defense forces currently operate over 280 of its civil and military aircraft.
The U.S. aerospace company is increasing its operational footprint in India, sourcing $1.25 billion annually in parts and components from local suppliers. Additionally, Boeing has invested $200 million in a campus in Bengaluru, its largest overseas facility.
Salil Gupte, President of Boeing India, noted the company’s ongoing focus on strengthening partnerships and expanding its role in India’s defense and manufacturing sectors.
Ortberg’s visit comes during a period of recovery for Boeing following recent challenges, including a decline in aircraft deliveries in 2024. The company delivered 348 commercial aircraft last year, compared to higher figures in previous years.
The visit also coincides with global trade tensions, as Boeing was recently included among U.S. companies penalized by China for arms exports to Taiwan.
