The Gas Turbine Research Establishment (GTRE), a division of the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO), has upgraded its manufacturing facilities by introducing advanced CNC (Computer Numerical Control) machines. These systems are designed to enhance the precision and efficiency of producing critical jet engine components, such as turbine blades and compressor rotors.
These improvements are part of ongoing efforts to support projects like the Kaveri engine, which aims to strengthen domestic capabilities in defense manufacturing. The advanced CNC machines enable the processing of high-performance materials, including titanium and nickel alloys, which are essential for modern aerospace applications.
While the upgrade reduces some reliance on external suppliers, challenges remain in achieving complete indigenization of such technologies. GTRE continues to work on advancing its infrastructure to support India’s aerospace and defense initiatives.
