Bangalore International Airport Limited (BIAL) and Sarla Aviation have signed a statement of collaboration to explore air mobility solutions, including the potential introduction of electric vertical takeoff and landing (eVTOL) aircraft at Kempegowda International Airport (BLR Airport). The initiative is aimed at providing a faster and more sustainable transport option for passengers traveling to and from the airport, bypassing Bengaluru's heavy traffic.
According to BIAL, the partnership will focus on developing operational models for seven-seater eVTOL aircraft. These electric flying taxis are intended to reduce travel times to the airport from key locations in Bengaluru, such as Electronics City and other major areas.
The initiative is part of a broader strategy to address growing transportation challenges in the city while exploring new air mobility technologies. Both parties emphasized that the move represents a shift towards cleaner and more efficient travel solutions.
BIAL stated that the project marks an exploration of advanced mobility concepts with an emphasis on sustainable transportation alternatives for airport passengers.
The timeline for the implementation of these solutions has not yet been disclosed, and both companies are continuing their efforts to study the feasibility of introducing electric air taxis in the region.
