Garuda Aerospace, a drone technology company based in Chennai, has announced the acquisition of 20 patents, including six international patents. According to a company press release, these patents cover various applications, including agricultural drones for mapping, surveying, spraying, crop health monitoring, and seed dropping, among others.
The patents also include innovations in other areas, such as underwater inspection drones, health inspection drones, and surveillance drones equipped with miniature radar systems for detecting suspicious activity or monitoring crowded events. Other patented technologies include drones designed for medicare delivery and field surveillance.
Since securing its first patent in 2020, Garuda Aerospace has developed a growing intellectual property portfolio, reportedly achieving the highest number of patent filings in the Indian drone sector between 2022 and 2024. The company specializes in "smart drones" that integrate hardware, software, and artificial intelligence to address challenges in industries such as agriculture, healthcare, and surveillance.
Garuda Aerospace’s founder and CEO, Agnishwar Jayaprakash, stated that the patents reflect the company’s commitment to research and innovation, enabling it to meet regulatory requirements in developed markets and expand globally.
The company has also received continued support from cricketing figure MS Dhoni, who has renewed his role as a brand ambassador and increased his investment in the company. Garuda Aerospace has announced plans to pursue an initial public offering (IPO) as part of its growth strategy.
